NAGA Tournament
Miami, FL---On Saturday, March 23, 2007, six members of local mixed martial arts school, the Tallahassee Fight Club, represented the capital city at the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) US Nationals tournament in Miami, Florida. The event allowed for many traditional elements of wrestling along with submissions and a variety of grappling techniques highlighted within the newly increasingly popular sports of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. The TFC members who competed, Justin Bagomdry, Marcus McKee, Joey Rakowski, Zack Roy, Chris Throne, and Ray Uzonyi, posted an 11-7 record under the NAGA grappling format. Rakowski also captured third place in his division.
Assistant trainer Dan Funes said of the group, all Florida State and Tallahassee Community College students, āIām extremely proud of them. The annual NAGA in Miami is known as one of the largest and most difficult tournaments in the United States. Many on this team are fairly new to the sport and yet they were insistent on testing themselves in this particular event. I feel that they did just that and am confidence that their resolve will continue to carry them to the next level.ā
