Local Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Win in Georgia.  Local Mixed Martial Arts school Tallahassee MMA completed the month of September with an impressive record of 4-2 in professional MMA fights. Beginning with a trip to Valdosta, Georgia on September 15, TMMA fielded a three-fighter squad including former Lincoln High wrestling coach, Ryan McClellan, Tallahassee Community College student, Josh Samman, and IFL veteran, Josh Odom. All three fighters took home victories that night with McClellan starting the action using effective wrestling and ground striking to take a TKO victory early in the first round of his lightweight bout. Samman entered his 180lb catch weight match with a broken foot but still worked his way to a second round win after taking knockout of the night honors with a rarely seen double hammerfist KO from mount.  And in the main event of the evening, Odom defeated Valdosta local, Kamrin Naville, with a quick 1st round armbar.

On September 29, in Savannah, GA, three TMMA professional fighters again competed. Fight veteran Shane Weinischke and Marine Corporal Chris Thorne, joined Josh Odom on his second bout in September. Weinischke proved a better striker and worked effectively while holding his opponent in guard but could not cancel out takedowns in the judges’ eyes as he lost a close fight via decision. Thorne had a tough night with Savannah standout, Stephen Bass, as the Georgia favorite secured a triangle choke in the first round. Odom co-headlined that evening’s fights against world champion striker Harris Norwood. During the first round, the shorter Odom forced Norwood to the matt and effectively worked from within a tight triangle guard from his lanky opponent. In the second Norwood was able to sweep Odom to the ground with a heavy kick but when the Georgia fighter pounced, the ready Odom threw up a textbook armbar to win his fight with a sudden submission.
